Straughan Family | At Home Family Session in York

I shot Hannah & Ben's wedding nearly 4 years ago. There they are, happy as ever above! I was over the moon when Hannah got in touch for a family session at their home in York. Their second boy, Wilf, had just arrived and they were keen to have some photos soon after he was born. Newborn shoots are best done in the first two weeks if you really want to capture that brand new squishiness, as well as all the incredible expressions they make! But it doesn't really matter when you do the shoot; every stage is wonderful to document.

My approach to family sessions is a mixture of documentary and portrait - although nothing overly staged and with your baby cuddled in your arms; after all, as any parent knows, this is where a newborn is truly content and relaxed!

I find it incredibly rewarding when I meet up with my couples long after their wedding and am given the opportunity to document their continuing story and the new generations that have joined the family. If you're considering having a family shoot, do get in touch. I am certain you won't have any regrets. They grow up so fast (I know only too well) and I can only imagine how wonderful it will be to look back at these photos when they've grown, or even embarrass them on their wedding day! You can see more of my work on my Family Website HERE. Even if I didn't shoot your wedding, I would love to hear from you!

Mackenzie Family | At Home Newborn Session

Being a parent myself and experiencing just how quickly time flies, and dare I say, just how quickly you forget so many of those little details, the fleeting expressions and life changing moments, I really do believe having photos of this special time is something you will never regret. I promise you that one day, your little four year old, will sit on your laptop, eyes full of wonder, holding your hands, as they revel in just how tiny they were and how their cute little bum rested so neatly in the palm of you hand. Never underestimate just how beautifully photographs can preserve your memories and pass them on to future generations. Family photography is a true extension of my wedding photography business, in every respect, and I feel lucky to be chosen by my couples and family clients.

After photographing Lilian and Jimmy's maternity shoot, I was so looking forward to continuing their story with their newborn session at home. I love doing newborn sessions in the family home; they are so intimate and personal, as well as being more comfortable for families in those first few weeks as a new parent. All you need is the light from a window and the love of new parents to make some magic.

Have a great weekend everyone! xx
